Join us for a wine tour with a difference!
This special event takes us to the fabulous Polgoon Vineyard & Orchard, near Penzance, where you will experience a full guided tour through the vines and the winery, and see firsthand how they produce their award-winning wine and cider, as well as hearing about their history and how they came to be. Followed by a guided tasting of their wines and a beautifully prepared platter of local delights for dinner.
You will then be taken to the Minack – a breathtaking, open-air theatre at Porthcurno near Lands End, to watch one of their special summer performances. You’ll be sat on the cliffside, looking out at the Atlantic while watching the sunset in the background – it really is quite magical!
*The tours approx timings are 2.30pm pick-up and 11.30pm drop-off*
Thursday 2nd July – “A Little Night Music”
Book by Hugh Wheeler, music & lyrics by Stephen Sondheim
The British Theatre Academy
Inspired by the Ingmar Bergman Film, ‘Smiles of a Summer Night’, Sondheim’s ‘fin-de-siècle’ satire sparkles with wit as a chance meeting of ex-lovers unlocks a chain of romantic misalliances during an elegant weekend in the country. Sondheim’s memorable score includes the hit song ‘Send in the Clowns’.
Thursday 9th July – “Vanity Fair”
William Thackeray, adapted by Kate Hamill
Newport Playgoers
Meet Becky Sharp, a young woman born with every disadvantage and a firm determination to take Georgian society by storm – whatever the cost. As Becky climbs the greasy pole, pretty, rich Amelia Sedley is sliding inexorably towards ruin. The women’s paths cross and recross, but can they save themselves from disaster or will they be each other’s destruction? Kate Hamill’s exuberant version of this classic tale is as witty and unorthodox as its irrepressible heroine.
Thursday 30th July – “David Copperfield”
Charles Dickens adapted by Alastair Cording
The Miller Centre Theatre Company
One of Dicken’s best loved novels is brought vibrantly to life in this warm, funny and fast paced adaptation, full of his finest characters, including the ultimate optimist Mr Micawber, the fawning Uriah Heap, the formidable Aunt Betsy Trotwood and the glamorous, spoilt Steerforth.
Thursday 6th August – “Scarlet Pimpernel”
Baroness Orczy adapted by Beverley Cross
The Geoffrey Whitworth Theatre
‘They seek him here, they seek him there’, but for an evening of unalloyed entertainment and adventure look no further than this week at Minack, when our elusive hero will be rescuing aristocrats from Madame La Guillotine right under the noses of those dastardly Frenchies, and serving up a perfect summer cocktail of swashbuckling romance.
